Crashed on take-off from Colorado Springs Army Air Base on 8 August 1942. The pilot, 1st Lt. Edward J. Peterson, Operations Officer for the 14th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron, sustained significant burns and died at a local hospital that afternoon. On 13 December 1942, the base was renamed Peterson Army Air Base in his honour. (Contributed by Richard Faulkner)
